Black Skies Over Britain!
Congratulations to Cambridge University Spaceflight on the successful launch yesterday of their instrumented balloon mission Nova 6 to a UK amateur altitude record of 32,461m (106,500ft). The mission demonstrated real-time telemetry at less than 10mW transmitter power (less than a standard LED). The mission telemetry was received by a member of the UK High Altitude Society based in London, and uploaded to the internet in real-time.
A small selection of the 3000 photos taken during the mission is available here. There is also a KML file of the mission flightpath for display in Google Earth.
Nova 6 forms part of a long-term effort by Cambridge University Spaceflight to launch "rockoon" flights to over 100km for £1000 or less per mission.
