Rocketeer — Tue, 16/02/2010 - 1:23am
The 12th Feb issue of the Space IGT newsletter is available for download. A brief excerpt is shown below:
The UK Space Innovation and Growth Strategy 2010 to 2030
"During the next 20 years, the UK has positioned itself as the leading nation in the development and exploitation of space-enabled services" (Andy Green, CEO Logica, 2010)
On Wednesday 10 February 2010, the Space IGT, a joint collaboration between Government, industry and academia launched the Space Innovation and Growth Strategy (IGS), a report that outlines the 20 year vision for growing the UK Space Sector. Chaired by Andy Green, CEO of Logica and Chairman of the Space IGT Executive Steering Board, key speakers at the launch included:
- Lord Drayson, Science Minister, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
- Vicky Pryce, Director General, Economics and Joint-Head, UK Government Economic Service
- Ian Pearson, Economic Secretary, HM Treasury
- Colin Paynter, CEO Astrium
Following the delivery of the recommendations to Government, Lord Drayson has accepted Recommendation 16, supporting the creation of a Space Leadership Council, jointly chaired by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and the President of UKspace (trade association for British space industry) to oversee progress and implement the specific recommendations of the Strategy.
A full response from Government will follow later this month.
